GWLT Internship OpportunitiesWith our small, friendly staff, interns are a vital part of achieving our mission and growing in the future. We offer a variety of internships based on the interests and abilities of applicants and our current organizational needs. We encourage applicants who love the environment and are interested in independent work with minimal hands-on oversight to get in touch. Property Researcher
Several GWLT properties are surrounded by unbuilt lands that may be potential conservation properties and are in need of historical research. Interns will use the GIS program ESRI Arc Map to review historical deeds, assessors’ maps, and various other land records—primarily online and including such things as DEP records, local newspapers, etc. Information gathered will be used to assess the potential land conservation opportunities and prioritize GWLT efforts.
Grant Application Assistant
Interns assist with the preparation and submission of grant applications associated with the acquisition of funds for land conservation. Interns research and collect required application materials and determine their applicability for potential conservation sites. There may also be opportunities to become involved with grant applications associated with other needs of the organization during that time. Good organizational and communication skills are essential, and an interest in land conservation is helpful.
Videographer
The GWLT website (www.gwlt.org) is continually being updated. In an effort to present our volunteer, hiking, and open space information in a compelling format, we are seeking feature videos about our sites and selected activities. This internship would involve the creation of short (35-minute) videos. Creativity is permitted and encouraged! This internship requires interaction with volunteers and potentially attendance at one or more events. Familiarity with filming and editing video is helpful.
GPS/GIS Field Worker
GWLT has miles of trails and site features (streams, shorelines, elevations) that need to be walked, verified, and mapped in ArcGIS. This internship requires a combination of computer skills and fieldwork. Map reading and compass skills are useful, and the use of a GWLT-provided GPS unit is required. While most locations are within access of biking and public transportation, personal transportation may prove more convenient. Applicants should have proper all-weather hiking gear.
